RNSG 2124 Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family

Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family is offered the second year of the nursing program and builds on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) introduced in Fundamentals and Lifespan Nursing Care I. This course applies the nursing process to individuals and families experiencing pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and selected womens health alterations. Emphasis is placed on providing safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered care across the maternal-newborn continuum. EPSLOs are integrated throughout the course to support the development of clinical judgment, recognition and prioritization of maternal-newborn needs, implementation of nursing interventions, patient and family education, and evaluation of outcomes. Lecture, laboratory, and clinical experiences provide opportunities to apply maternal-newborn nursing skills, collaborate with the interprofessional team, and refine decision-making and prioritization in diverse acute care settings. The roles of the associate degree nurse as provider of care, manager of care, and member of the discipline of nursing are reinforced. This is a web enhanced course; students may be required to access course content, test, submit assignments, or complete assignments online through Blackboard ultra and/or other learning platforms.
