RNSG 1132 Medical Surgical Nursing I
Medical Surgical Nursing I is offered in the second semester of the nursing program and is the first in a three-course sequence that enhances the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) obtained in nursing fundamentals. Building on fundamentals, this course applies the nursing process to individuals experiencing common, predictable alterations in health. The end-of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs) and the concepts embedded within the quality and safety education for nurses (QSEN) competencies are purposefully integrated throughout each unit of instruction, serving as foundational elements in the development of the nurse generalist. Primary emphasis is placed on recognizing and prioritizing physiological problems, implementing nursing interventions, and engaging in basic goal setting with evaluation of patient outcomes highlighting recognition, prioritization, and basic intervention skills. The lecture, clinical, and laboratory components of this course introduce the student to the application of the nursing process to patients with selected alterations in function. This is a web enhanced course; students may be required to access course content, test, submit assignments, or complete assignments online through Blackboard ultra and/or other learning platforms.
