RNSG 1112 Fundamentals of Nursing
Through classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences, this course introduces students to the foundational principles of nursing practice, including professional standards, ethical considerations, patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, teamwork, communication, safety, clinical judgment, and basic clinical skills. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge, skills, and attitude (QSEN framework) needed to provide safe, quality care and the end of program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs) are woven throughout the course. The theoretical foundation for basic assessment and nursing skills is presented, and the student is given an opportunity to demonstrate these skills in the laboratory and clinical settings. An introduction to the nursing process provides a decision-making framework to assist students in developing effective clinical judgment skills. This is a web enhanced course; students may be required to access course content, test, submit assignments, or complete assignments online through Blackboard ultra and/or other learning platforms.
