RNSG 1120 Dosage Calculations and Basic Pharmacology

This foundational course prepares first-semester nursing students to safely and effectively administer medications through the integration of pharmacological principles and dosage calculation skills. Emphasis is placed on the nurses role in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of pharmacologic therapy across diverse patient populations. Students will develop competency in accurate drug dosage calculations, including unit conversions, oral and parenteral dosage measurements, and intravenous flow rate computations. The course also introduces the fundamentals of pharmacology, including major drug classifications, mechanisms of action, therapeutic and adverse effects, and essential nursing considerations. Critical thinking, patient safety, and legal and ethical responsibilities are interwoven throughout the course and aligned with end of program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs), current nursing standards, and evidence-based practice. This is a web enhanced course; students may be required to access course content, test, submit assignments, or complete assignments online through Blackboard ultra and/or other learning platforms.
