RNSG 2111 Medical Surgical Nursing II

Medical Surgical Nursing II is offered in the third semester of the nursing program and is the second in a three-course sequence that continues to advance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) developed in previous nursing courses. Building on the foundation established in Medical Surgical Nursing I, this course expands the application of the nursing process to individuals experiencing more complex and less predictable alterations in health across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on advancing clinical judgment through comprehensive assessment, prioritization of multiple patient problems, implementation of evidence-based nursing interventions, and evaluation of patient responses to care. The end of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs) and the concepts embedded within the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies are purposefully integrated throughout each unit of instruction, supporting the continued development of clinical judgment and professional practice in the nurse generalist. The lecture, clinical, and laboratory components of this course strengthen the students ability to apply critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and decision-making to provide safe, effective care for patients with increasingly complex health needs in a variety of healthcare settings. This is a web enhanced course; students may be required to access course content, test, submit assignments, or complete assignments online through Blackboard ultra and/or other platforms.
