RNSG 2132 Medical Surgical Nursing III
Medical Surgical Nursing III is offered in the final semester of the nursing program and is the culminating course in the three-course medical-surgical nursing sequence. This course synthesizes the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) developed throughout the nursing curriculum, emphasizing the application of advanced clinical judgment in the care of patients with complex, unstable, and multisystem alterations in health. Students synthesize prior learning to apply the nursing process to individuals and families experiencing high-risk conditions requiring advanced prioritization, coordination of care, and clinical judgment. Integration of the end-of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs) and Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies is emphasized to support the transition to entry-level professional nursing practice. Focus is placed on delegation, collaboration with interprofessional teams, patient safety, and evaluation of outcomes for individuals with complex healthcare needs. The lecture, clinical, and laboratory components support role development as a nurse generalist by fostering accountability, leadership behaviors, and readiness for professional practice. This is a web enhanced course; students may be required to access course content, test, submit assignments, or complete assignments online through Blackboard ultra and/or other learning platforms.
