High School Initiatives
The High School Initiatives Office oversees all things related to dual enrollment. We assist high school and home school students with advising and registration. We hold dual enrollment
orientations for new students. We also work closely with area high schools and school systems with managing the Dual Enrollment Program.
Dual Enrollment Program at GNTC
The Dual Enrollment Program at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (formerly called Move On When Ready), allows high school students to take college degree level core courses, as well as
certificate, and diploma level courses. All coursework taken through the Dual Enrollment Program is covered through state funding, and students will not be required to pay out of pocket for tuition,
college fees, or textbooks. Please note, there are some occupational courses that have course related fees. Welding, cosmetology, automotive are just a few examples. These fees are not covered by the Dual Enrollment Program.
Benefits of Dual Enrollment at GNTC
Degree-level core classes will transfer to any institution in the University System of Georgia (USG) or Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). College credits count toward high school rigor and HOPE Scholarship rigor requirements.
Credit hours taken through Dual Enrollment will not count toward the HOPE Grant or Scholarship credit hour caps.
Students who participate in Dual Enrollment courses get a 0.5 boost in the HOPE Scholarship GPA calculation upon high school graduation. Please note -this does not apply to your local GPA
calculation.
Eligibility
Any 1Oth-12th grade students enrolled in an eligible Georgia high school or home school study program who meet the required placement criteria are eligible for up to 30 semester hours of Dual Enrollment funding. There are no residency or citizenship requirements.
Coursework
Courses are offered on the college campus, at the high school campus, online, hybrid, or web enhanced. Students will be allowed to take up to 15 credit hours per semester at each college they attend. Students can enroll in GNTC courses during the fall, spring, or summer semesters while still in high school and receive dual credit.
Tuition, Fees, and Books
Tuition, college fees, and textbooks are covered by the Dual Enrollment Program for every eligible student. There may be some course-related fees not covered by dual enrollment. For example,
cosmetology and automotive students have to purchase tool kits. However, most GNTC programs do not require these fees.
For tuition, fees, and books to be covered by Dual Enrollment funding, every student must complete a funding application every year he or she is enrolled in college courses. The funding application is on the GAFutures (https://www.gafutures.org/) website.
